I thought a bit about why I hadn't contributed to my travelogue since last summer and all sorts of reasons came up. We've travelled, quite a bit. In fact, we've been to California three times since I last wrote. California is interesting, beautiful, and blog-worthy -- however, nothing.
Instagram may have something to do with it. But even more so: a wedding. Last August, two months after my last post, I proposed to Ry in Napa. Thus began the series of traditional steps to getting married. Our friends threw us an Engagement party in November. We married in Orange County in March. Our family and friends, both near and afar, flew to Austin for a celebration in May. We disappeared for a quick trip in June to pick up our marriage certificate and go to Disneyland. Getting married is a lot of freaking work!
After it, you're left with your thoughts and memories.
Last Sunday, I was thinking about travel. We had thought about doing a trip to New Orleans in August since we're expecting a puppy in late fall. Or maybe a trip up to San Francisco and Napa where we were engaged last August. As usual, I toyed around with using our Delta Skymiles to go to England. Or Germany. I found some good flights with decent use of our Skymiles. After Ry woke up, I showed him and we talked more about it. Text to the boss. Text to our friend who camps out at our Compound to watch Isaac and the cats. All signs pointed to "Gooooo" and now we're off running. It's coming up quickly.
The good and bad of it coming so quickly: it's good because we don't have to wait for eons before the trip starts, and it's bad because I never feel like I have enough time to properly research and enjoy the glow of preparing to travel. It's good because there's a greater likelihood of spontaneity while we are there because we'll have ideas and themes for the trip, and not a hard-core agenda. It's bad because what if I don't read up enough and run out of ideas? That's enough, get out of my OCD head for now.
We are spending a few nights in Stuttgart and a few nights in München. Overall, a quick trip of 6 days. Then, back to the mayhem of fall and planning for the puppy.
We've been to Stuttgart and München before and are looking forward to returning in late summer and trying out new things that we haven't hit before. Yes, we could have booked that Switzerland tour I've been dreaming about. Or a trip into Slovenia and Croatia. However, there just isn't enough time and we need to return to the Fatherland, which should still be celebrating it's dominance at the World Cup and current standings in F1.
So, it's time to start planning. Only 30ish days to go.
Tschüß!!
