München bike rides and Public Holidays

We forced ourselves out of bed at 7:45. We have to get ahold of the Jetlag or else we will stay up until 3am each night. So, eyes wide shut, we schlep’d down to grab coffees, dressed, and took our hotel-provided bikes out. I mistakenly took the registration from our rental car last night so we had to return that first. Then we filled our bikes with air and I cut my finger. Damn!

We had a Käse-Schinken-bretzen for breakfast; essentially a piece of bread with ham and Emmentaler cheese on it. 6,5 miles later we are in the middle of the Englischter Garten having a Maß Helles. We had to navigate some big crowds in Marienplatz, the main square, because it’s Corpus Christi day. Explains all the locals out last night since it’s a Public Holiday and a lot of stuff is closed. A perfect day to bike! The weather is stellar. We spent a good amount of time biking the Isar River, where several ladies sunbathed on its banks, skin leathered, their straw mats unrolled under them as they have done every public holiday for dozens of years.
