Winged Migration (Spring Beginnings)

A few weeks ago, I drove through the neighborhood hearing a whirring noise all around. Then pockets of specks moving through the top of trees from street to street. Migrating birds were coming through. It's that time of year.

Back at the compound, I looked in our big pecans and there they were...and came and went and appeared and moved off. The grey day made it impossible to really determine who they were - woodpeckers? I don't think they move in flocks like this. I pulled my Texas Guide to Birds and couldn't find them. They have cute tufts on their head like a cardinal (or roman soldier), but round bodies and maybe a spot or two.

Tschüß!
