Roast at Kiki's

L is for BBQ, Kiki is for Roast
If you've ever been to Lockhart, you know about its BBQ. We've been to two of the many institutions - both great - although honestly I didn't like one simply because of their "barbecue sauce is against the law in our establishment - as are utensils" even though their sides were delicious. Anyhow, our friend moved there a few weeks (months?) ago and made quite the cute homestead down there. It's a 30-40 minute drive from our house, but couldn't feel more like a small town in the middle of texas. It's cute. Her house reminds me of a classic 40s abode.

Wine and Phase 10
We take Phase 10 with us everywhere - it's been on all of our vacations abroad and within the US - and we spent New Years' Eve playing quite the mean game of it. We introduced Bry and Kiki to it this weekend during Sunday Roast with some delish Grillo and Tormaresca Chardonnay to accompany the Black Bean Dip, Guac, and Fiesta Ranch Dip nibbles while the roast simmered and the veggies - parsnips, tiny cute potatoes, carrots - roasted. I - as well - got roasted at the game. Argh!

Relaxing Sunday - Post-Holidays
It was a nice diversion, especially after the gallop of September-through-December, the suddenness of the holidays (Christmas decorations replaced Halloween only a week before Christmas Day - they came down tonight), quite a bit of time at home on the Compound, and it's always a nice time on Roast Sunday at Grandma (haha) Kiki's house.

I secretly love the wallpaper, although it comes down this week.

Return to Work
I started back today and while it was busy busy busy, at least 3/4 of our clients weren't yet back so I could put balls back in their court. Ry's back tomorrow with his normal-crazy-full-but-fun-day. January continues.

Tschüß!!
