Geeking Out at Tron: Legacy

It's been a while since I watched the original Tron, but as a teenager we watched this countless times. It was SO cool! Although we liked it probably in the late 80s, a few years after it had come out and become stale from the other cool tech out there. Star Tours at Disneyland had come out and was by far a cooler, more understandable, and ground-breaking thing for us to geek out about. 

One of my favorite parts about the old Disneyland PeopleMover was the "Tron" sequence that was housed in the attic of the old America Sings building. The PeopleMover carts move slowly as a high-speed film shows a Light Cycle race all around you.

Of course, I walked over to the Alamo Drafthouse to see Tron -- I love noon movies on Saturday because they are generally empty and attended only by people who really want to see it, not spouses who are tagging along or friends/family who didn't get their say and would rather be next-door watching Little Fockers -- and although I didn't get there an hour early (my standard practice and anti-anxiety measure to ensure a comfortable queueing and loading experience) I still was the third person in line and all three of us were lead into the theatre. 

Alamo has a preshow to every movie, starting about 30 minutes prior to the show starting, and they're themed to the show. So, for Tron, there were funny 80s-style computer cartoons, a South Park version of Tron, and...one of the reasons I have a soft spot in my heart for The Pointer Sisters. I remember watching this special in 1985, mostly for the spinning Electrical Parade vehicles and the awesome Millipede float - for some reason I actually thought they sang "I'm So Excited" (if I'm having trouble waking in the morning, this song in my head gets me going) but instead it's a Tron-appropriate Neutron Dance.

(I just have to mention that a majority of the song lyrics have NOTHING to do with the chorus about doing a 'Neutron Dance.' It's really strange - the rest seems gritty, real-life, and down-on-your-luck and then they're burning up doing the Neutron Dance? Well, never-you-mind I still love the girls anyway.)

Orange Rolls Redo
My Christmas morning Orange Rolls were a bit of a bust. They *looked* gorgeous but were too gooey inside. We're cooking a new batch. Part of our issue is we're making them in a Monkey Bread pan instead of a traditional Bundt pan because - alas - we have no Bundt pan.

Cabinet Clean-out

Ry is determined to make this "cabinet clean-out day" and since it's rainy, there isn't much else on our agenda today, and leaving the house only will mean shopping and buying things...sounds like a good activity until I make my Winter Minestrone later.
