Yes, I've been dying to make this post for several days now. I even went back in history to see how I had celebrated the days-before...this trip simply has come about faster than others and is relatively shorter than others.
Last night was the first official packing session. Ry remarked, "Can you imagine it being the day before and us going through packing?" I replied, "I would be the worst, meanest person in the world." This is a completely true and, in my opinion, fair statement. The more experienced (older) we get, the smarter we are about preparations. Lots of social commitments prior to the trip? Nope. Just a lunch with lovely friends on Sunday. Nothing else. There's too much to prepare for on the home front, the work front, and vacation front. Ry works insane hours between now and then. I have back-to-back meetings and then also to-dos before we leave. There's the house to prepare. A birdie salad to make. No need to be stressed if we're thinking about this right now.
By day-count, this trip will be shorter than our wedding trip to Disneyland. I thought I'd make that note of relevancy.
I just transcribed our packing list from index cards, used last night and inefficient in my opinion, to an electronic document. That way we can re-check our packing and work on our toiletries; this is by far the bane of our packing procedure.
We haven't changed our names yet - we filled out all the paperwork and then the trip came up and...well you need a passport, ID, etc. with the right name on it...so we're waiting until we return to do all that.
Bayern München won today! This will be my first trip bringing a jersey along with me, but I do plan on doing some shopping for local gear...no home game during our visit but I'll be on the lookout for players!
Tschüß!
